NH CTO Council

Roy Bailey, the Director of Technology at Bow School District, is the 2024 NHCTO of the Year. This award celebrates Roy's transformative 31-year tenure in the Bow School District. Under Roy's leadership, the district's infrastructure evolved significantly, embracing the digital age with robust systems and enhanced cybersecurity measures. His proactive approach to integrating synchronous learning platforms during the pandemic was instrumental in maintaining continuous learning, proving critical to the district’s resilience in challenging times. Roy's influence extends beyond the local district. His significant contributions to the Christa McAuliffe Conference and his tenure as president of the NH Society for Technology in Education (NHSTE) highlight his impactful role in shaping educational technology across New Hampshire. His legacy is not only marked by technological advancements but also by the cultivation of a future-ready, inclusive educational environment. Jennifer Baney
Christa McAuliffe Sabbatical
NH Charitable Foundation


The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation awards one New Hampshire teacher a year-long sabbatical in honor of Christa McAuliffe to pursue a project of his or her professional dreams. Jennifer Baney of Bedford High School was chosen in recognition of her innovative proposal aimed at enhancing student motivation, engagement, and learning in STEM subjects. Jennifer's project involves the creation of downloadable tabletop "escape room games tailored for classroom use. These games are designed to cultivate essential skills such as collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking, which are crucial not only in academic settings but also in the workforce. Her vision extends to making these educational tools widely accessible; she plans to provide these games along with supplemental resources for teachers free of charge to all schools in New Hampshire. Jennifer aims to spark a greater interest in STEM fields and equip students with the skills necessary for future success. Her approach reflects the spirit of innovation and education championed by Christa McAuliffe.

Andrea Castaldo
Assistant Principal of the Year

Andrea Castaldo of Kearsarge Regional Middle School is the 2024 recipient of the New Hampshire Association of School Principals Assistant Principal of the Year award, highlighting her exceptional leadership and innovative approach to educational administration. Andrea's hands-on, "boots on the ground" approach resonates deeply with her colleagues. Her collaboration with staff has been pivotal in the successful design and implementation of significant school-wide initiatives. Under her leadership, the introduction of Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports for Behavior (MTSS-B) and competency-based grading have influenced the school's culture, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and student-centered learning. Superintendent Winfried Feneberg shared that, “Andrea’s optimism shines through, making her not only a competent administrator, but a highly respected leader in the district. She possesses the ability and capacity to go far in this profession.”

Michelle Clark
Alexander J. Blastos Distinguished Service Award
NH Association of School Business Officials


Michelle Clark of Hopkinton School District is the 2024 recipient of the Alexander J. Blastos Distinguished Service Award, presented by the NH Association of School Business Officials (NHASBO). Her exemplary service to NHASBO includes various leadership roles on the Executive Committee and significant contributions across key committees. Michelle is particularly celebrated for her outstanding leadership of the Facilities Conference Committee for the past 16 years. Under her guidance, the Northern New England Facility Masters Conference has grown to become one of NHASBO’s most vital professional development events. Furthermore, Michelle’s strategic vision and ability to forge meaningful connections have been instrumental in the creation of innovative educational programs, most notably the establishment of the Facility and Business Administrator Certificate programs, which were developed through a strategic partnership with Texas ASBO.

Michael Clauss
Janis Hennessey World Language Teacher of Excellence
NH Association of World Language Teachers


Michael Clauss of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy is honored as this year’s recipient of the Janis Hennessey World Language Teacher of Excellence Award by the New Hampshire Association of World Language Teachers. Known for his exceptional teaching skills and innovative methods in Spanish instruction, Michael has not only inspired his students but also invigorated his colleagues with his creativity. One of his notable creations includes "mayomanía de mayo," an engaging activity where students analyze mayonnaise commercials from Spanish-speaking countries and vote for their favorites in a "March Madness" style competition. Beyond the classroom, Michael’s commitment extends to various extracurricular roles including serving as a soccer coach, yearbook advisor, and as an active participation on the NHAWLT board. He is also the president of the New Hampshire chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). His dedication to fostering cultural immersion extends outside the classroom as he regularly travels with students to Spanish-speaking countries, further enhancing their learning experience and cultural understanding.

Troy Corriveau
New Hampshire Art Educator of the Year
NH Art Educators’ Association


The New Hampshire Art Educators Association has named Troy Corriveau as the New Hampshire Art Educator of the Year for 2023-2024. Troy is an art teacher at Prospect Mountain High School in Alton, NH., where he brings a solid knowledge of teaching practices, endless creative energy, and a deep caring for his students. Troy is the advisor for the National Art Honor Society, a department head and curriculum leader. He encourages all of his students to participate in programs such as The Scholastic Art Awards of NH and the statewide Student Art Month program, as well as local exhibitions of their work. Catherine Fraser, Library Media Specialist, comments: “Troy advocates strongly for his programs. He participates in the (school) leadership team, and was instrumental in the design of the new schedule implemented this year at Prospect Mountain. Troy always keeps the integrity of his program foremost in his mind.” Troy also contributes his creative energy and teaching skill to higher education as an adjunct faculty member.

Doug Cullen
Extended Learning Coordinator of the Year
NH Extended Learning Opportunities Network


Doug Cullen was selected as the NH ELO Network Coordinator of the Year award recipient for his long time work in creating novel learning options for students. In particular, and especially in the last year, Doug has worked to advance extended learning at Pinkerton. As stated by one of Doug’s support letters “I have seen first-hand how extensively he reaches out to the business world on behalf of students. Whether organizing networking opportunities through reverse career fairs, facilitating applied academic events, building connections to foster on-the-job opportunities and apprenticeships, and more, Doug has made it a point to keep up with local and state-wide businesses and industry professionals to ensure that Pinkerton is providing the most relevant education possible for its students.”

As the Director of EdTech Learning & Growth at Pinkerton, Christina provides the critical link between technology and learning. Holding a wide array of professional certifications, Christina has been instrumental in advancing the technological competence of educators through her dynamic workshops. Her recent focus on generative AI applications demonstrates her commitment to keeping the educational community at the forefront of technological innovation. As the NHSTE Professional Learning Chair, Christina extends her impact beyond Pinkerton Academy, enriching the professional lives of educators across New Hampshire by providing resources and innovative ideas. Her expertise makes her a sought-after speaker and a respected authority in educational technology, both locally and globally.

Her expertise and dedication have driven substantial improvements in educational practices and policies, benefiting both students and educators. 2024 New Hampshire Teacher of the Year

Elizabeth Duclos, a third-grade teacher at Pembroke Hill School, has been honored as the 2024 New Hampshire Teacher of the Year. This accolade recognizes her insightful thinking, strong work ethic, and educational expertise. Elizabeth was chosen for her outstanding commitment to creating meaningful and empowering learning experiences that meet students at their individual levels of need. Nominated by a broad spectrum of the educational community—including superintendents, principals, colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders—Elizabeth's influence extends beyond her classroom. Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut commended her, stating, "Elizabeth Duclos will serve as an ambassador for all of the excellent teachers throughout the state. She is committed to
fostering an environment where students are encouraged to thrive and embrace learning with enthusiasm." Her approach is celebrated by Pembroke Hill School Principal Wendy Gerry, who noted, "When you walk into her learning environment, it is evident that the students feel valued and safe to take risks in their learning."

The New Hampshire Association of Special Education Administrators (NHASEA) is honored to present Larry Elliott, the Director of Student Services for the Kearsarge Regional School District, as the 2024 Special Education Administrator of the Year. Larry is a proven systems leader and an inspiration to his educational community. Larry is recognized for his ability to inspire others, his attention to the individual needs of all children, youth and their families, dynamic leadership skills, and for the lasting impact he has had upon school culture throughout SAU 65. Larry’s strengths include effective communication skills, professionalism, community involvement and creativity in ensuring that the needs of students with exceptionalities are met. In addition to his work as a Special Education Administrator, Larry is actively involved in many local and statewide task forces, committees, initiatives and has served on the Board of Directors for the NHASEA. Larry is a strong leader committed to the success of all children, especially those
who are exceptional learners.

Joy Gobin
NH ELO Network Lifetime Achievement
NH Extended Learning Opportunities Network


Joy Gobin of Lebanon High School has been awarded the NH ELO Network Lifetime Achievement Award for her exceptional contributions to the Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) program. This is the first time the Network is giving an award in this category which speaks to Joy’s gold standards. Joy has set a high bar within her school but has also led and mentored the western region of the state in best practices while also keeping a steadfast presence at the state level. Joy has facilitated over 200 students each year in earning credits through diverse experiences outside the traditional classroom setting, including internships, college courses, and specialized studies. Her efforts have not only elevated the school's ELO model to exemplary status within New Hampshire but also garnered national attention. Joy ensures each student's learning pathway is personalized, fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment. As she approaches retirement, her legacy at Lebanon High School remains a testament to her life-changing work and commitment to student success.

Chris Heider of Contoocook Valley Regional High School (ConVal) has been selected as the NHCSS Teacher of the Year. Over the years, Chris has demonstrated an unwavering passion for teaching and a deep commitment to student success through a variety of courses from Eastern World Heritage to American Government and Economics. Known for his engaging teaching style and genuine care for his students, Chris has significantly influenced the Conval community. He has served as an advisor to the local chapter of the YMCA Youth and Government (Y&G). Chris co-advises ConVal’s History Club, leading students in activities like the NH state History Bowl and the Granite State Challenge. His involvement with the Mariposa YES government charity program further showcases his
dedication to extending educational opportunities beyond the classroom. Chris’s humility and continuous pursuit of improvement reflect his educational philosophy. His approachability, combined with sharp intelligence and humor, makes him a beloved figure
at ConVal, truly embodying the qualities of a distinguished educator.

NHSBA is pleased to select the Jaffrey-Rindge Cooperative School Board as its 2024 School Board of Excellence. The Jaffrey-Rindge Cooperative School Board excelled in every facet of school board leadership, with a particular emphasis on: (1) strategic planning and stakeholder engagement by bringing together more than 80 community members to form the district’s strategic design; (2) developed policies that compel the board and the district to always have a multi-year strategic plan accompanied by annual detailed school-based plans and goals; and (3) adeptly exercising sound fiscal prudence while simultaneously increasing STEM education in pre-Kindergarten K through grade 12; implementing universal access to full-day-four-year-old pre-Kindergarten; purchasing and aligning literacy curriculum from Kindergarten through grade 8; adding childcare for children of staff members; and continuing the important work of maintaining and improving the district’s aging facilities.

Corey Laird of Milford High School & Applied Technology Center is the recipient of the New Hampshire Business Education Association (NHBEA) Achievement Award. His career in business education, spanning nearly two decades, is marked by integration of real-world business experiences into the classroom. As a Southern New Hampshire University dual enrollment instructor, Corey teaches accounting with a depth of knowledge that prepares students not just academically but for real-life financial challenges. His role as the advisor for the Future Business Leaders of America further underscores his commitment to nurturing the next generation of business innovators. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Corey brings discipline, dedication, and leadership to his teaching—qualities that resonate deeply with his students and colleagues alike. Corey is the essence of a business educator and deserves recognition as a long-standing member of the NHBEA. Corey’s students thrive in his business classes and are inspired to continue as finance majors in college.

Julie Lichtmann
NH School Counselor of the Year
NH School Counselors Association


Julie Lichtmann of Windham School District has been named the NH School Counselor of the Year by the New Hampshire School Counselor Association (NHSCA). Recognized for her pivotal role in creating a vibrant and supportive community at Windham, Julie's contributions are deeply impactful. There is no mystery why she is well loved and admired. Julie helped establish an advisory program, launched a student-run radio station, and introduced a global leadership certificate program. Notably, she also initiated a therapy dog program, bringing her sidekick Bailey into the school to support student wellbeing. Beyond these contributions, Julie has led the teacher mentoring program and served as the wellness coordinator, offering numerous development opportunities to staff. Her leadership extends to the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) programs in her schools. Julie's influence is also felt beyond her immediate school district. She has been an active participant in the NHSCA and previously chaired the recognition committee that honors excellence among her peers.

Dr. Trish Lindberg of Plymouth State University is the esteemed recipient of the Dennise Maslakowski Education Award. This accolade honors an educator within New Hampshire who has demonstrated a profound impact on improving educational experiences, paralleling the dedication of the late Dr. Dennise Maslakowski. Throughout her career at Plymouth State University, Dr. Lindberg, professor of education, has inspired graduate students and educators throughout New Hampshire. She is the artistic director and co- founder of the Educational Theatre Collaborative (ETC), the Kearsarge Arts Theatre (KAT), the St. Martins Summer Theatre in New Brunswick, Canada, and the Emmy Award-winning Theatre Integrating Guidance, Education and Responsibility (TIGER), a professional educational theatre company that has performed for over 500,000 school children regionally, nationally and internationally.

Kathryn Morrison
NHSTE Pat Keyes Technology – Using Educator Award

Kathryn Morrison is the recipient of the NHSTE Pat Keyes Technology Using Educator Award. Following more than a decade of teaching in Pelham, Kate Morrison has been serving learners as a Digital Learning Specialist in Rye Schools from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 since 2021. Kate is celebrated for her pioneering work in integrating technology with outdoor education, creating rich, experiential learning opportunities that extend well beyond the conventional classroom settings. Her unique approach not only engages students in exploring the natural world through a technological lens but also skillfully intertwines elements of social and emotional learning with digital citizenship. This integration helps cultivate essential qualities in her students, such as empathy, collaboration, and innovative thinking. Her dedication to fostering a globally-aware and emotionally intelligent student community truly embodies the spirit of the NHSTE Pat Keyes Award. Kate's exemplary use of technology in education serves as an inspiring model for how digital tools can enhance and expand the learning environment, making her a standout educator in her field.

Joshua Olstad, Director of Information Technology at Oyster River Cooperative School District, has been honored with the 2023 New Hampshire Chief Technology Officer (NHCTO) Leadership Award by the NHCTO Council. A founding member of the NHCTO, Joshua has played an instrumental role in shaping the organization and enhancing technology practices across New Hampshire. Thomas Rup, NHCTO member at large and selection committee member, emphasized Olstad's dedication to IT leadership. "What's special about this award is it is not only a recognition of Josh's work for Oyster River Cooperative School District, but it is also a recognition of his work by his peers around the state," Rup said. "Josh is incredibly well known for his great contributions at Oyster River, throughout the NHCTO, in the N.H. Department of Education, and through our national chapter of The Consortium of School Networks (CoSN). He is a true champion for technology in education and ne of the most well-spoken and knowledgeable individuals.

Nathan is a key figure in the Electrical CTE field, not only within Pinkerton Academy but also across New Hampshire. His initiatives and teaching strategies have significantly influenced local and statewide CTE programs, promoting high standards and continuous improvement. His impact extends far beyond his classroom, making him a "go-to" for teachers, a top educator for all levels, and a trusted partner for industry

A true embodiment of the NHASCD mission, Dr. Richardson serves as a "catalyst for conversation and action," promoting scholarly dialogue and inspiring excellence in teaching. His extensive background, which spans roles as an elementary school teacher, principal, and consultant, allows him to mentor a wide array of the state's educators effectively. She refuses to give up on any child, any book, or any challenge that comes her way. Jo’s dedication extends far beyond the confines of the classroom. She seamlessly transitions into the role of a guest reader in primary classrooms, offering her wisdom and warmth to eager young listeners. She remains a steadfast presence in the lives of her “big kids” in middle school, attending school events and cheering on her former students who have now become parents and grandparents themselves. Jo’s efforts remind us all of the impact that a single individual can have on the lives of many.

This case, recently adjudged in favor of the district, underscored her dedication to improving educational opportunities for all students in New Hampshire. Dr. Rizzo Saunders's approach combines deep passion and knowledge with a contagiously enthusiastic commitment to public education and children’s welfare. Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic exemplifies her effectiveness, swiftly transitioning to online learning and ensuring students returned to classrooms as soon as it was safe. Recognized for her exemplary service and advocacy, Dr. Rizzo Saunders's influence is a beacon for educational leadership and community impact.
